Mark Martinez aka Subset is a New York City-based DJ and producer who got started in early 2009. Subset’s interests span the entire arena of EDM and he has already left his mark on the NYC scene by taking the crowd on a journey through dubstep, drum and bass, electro, breaks, techno, and house in each of his sets.

Over the past two years, Subset has played venues of all shapes and sizes across NYC, Texas, West Virginia, and Costa Rica. From dark and dirty Brooklyn warehouse raves to upscale midtown hotels, Subset has proven his versatility on the decks, being asked to share the stage with the likes of Skream & Benga, Nero, Caspa, Figure, Alex English, Willy Joy, Kids at the Bar, Machinedrum, Abe Duque, and many more.

In 2011, Subset is best known as a resident DJ and one of the creative forces behind Webster Hall’s Bassment Saturdays party. Showing his insight into the current and future state of bass music, Subset has booked such artists as Alvin Risk, Sazon Booya, Shiftee, Rx, Psymbionic, Professor Nalepa, Flufftronix, :DFace, Comic Strips, Gosteffects, Curl Up, Lacey Youngblood, and Jueputasal in “The BASSment”, and continues to book the best talent week after week.

Subset is currently focusing his attention back in the studio to concentrate his eclectic tastes into something fierce and beautiful. Look for new releases in early 2012, and hear him spin live every Saturday at The Studio at Webster Hall.

I was browsing the flagcast on Radioflag (one of the best places I’ve found to discover great new music), and a DJ from WHCS in New York by the name of Matt Josephson, said he was going to be interviewing singer/songwriter Janet LaBelle. Intrigued, I decided to tune in. I didn’t know what to expect from Janet, but I’ve heard a couple of Matt’s previous interviews on his show, The Warehouse, and just knew I wouldn’t be let down.
